For the last nine years, Raymond Carey (BENJAMIN FRITZ) has been revising his doctoral dissertation on James Joyce. With the new budget crunch, he'll be forced out Berkeley's back door jobless and degree-less unless he can pull through and submit his dissertation by semester's end. Ray's professor, Dr. Hansel (DAVID GUILMETTE), agrees to sign off on the dissertation if Ray employs his powers of seduction to test the devotion of Grace (CHYNA CHUU), his mail-order bride. Ray reluctantly agrees but soon finds out Grace is a little more than he can handle.

Ray’s balancing act careens out of control when he discovers his girlfriend Holly (LARISSA KASIAN) has been seeing a rival graduate student, and Grace finally deserts her husband once and for all. Left alone, Ray and Dr. Hansel may just be able to learn something from each other. . . that is if they don’t rip each other’s throats open first!

The plot is intricate, compelling, and utterly ridiculous, but the real goal of the film is to present a panoramic view of Berkeley and its diverse inhabitants. Written & directed by longtime Berkeley grad student Brendan Borrell, "Double Spaced" could be one of the most original comedies this year.

This film was fun to watch. There were a couple of points where it got a little cheesy, but the professor character is crazy hilarious. Plus, the actors look like they had so much fun making it! It's great escapism. For those who are in grad school, were in grad school, know someone in grad school, or simply enjoy comedy hijinks, it's worth watching.
