The Hil Abides

Austin, TX

I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. (Maya Angelou)

The Boy Who Loved Hearses
Nicholas Kalikow 2006 | Documentary, Feature
This is a touching story about a guy who never quite fit in. The title implies more of a morbid tale, but it's really about his fascination with antique professional vehicles and a mother's love and support for her son and his hobby. You might need tissues for this one! You HAVE to see the scene where he begins naming the vehicles, complete with details, as a procession of cars goes by. Very impressive!

My Name Is Buttons
Comedy, Feature
I think there's a bit of Buttons in all of us. Sometimes I'd rather think about how much I like cheese than solve a math problem or talk politics. I love this film's references to Patch Adams and Awakenings. Not to ruin it for you, but the scene where it rains syringes when they try to escape the testing facility....two snaps in a z-formation! (Sorry it's hard for me to review a film and not want to bust out Damon Wayan's and David Allan Grier's "Men on Film" quotes.)
