Lasting Images
Hammond Hendrix 2006 | Documentary, Feature
This is the kind of documentary I love. It takes a subject that most of us have never thought about and makes it interesting by exploring the outskirts of it. I never really thought about what should happen to my body when I die before, but now I'm getting all kinds of ideas - preferably something big, loud, explosive and disconcerting to others.

Before the Music Dies
Andrew Shapter 2005 | Documentary, Feature, Music
This film does a great job of explaining why the music you hear on the radio sucks, but I thought it could use few more examples of independent artists in newer genres that were having a hard time getting deals. Without them, it almost comes off as a film lamenting that they just don't make music like they used to, which I don't think was the point. There is a lot of great new music in different genres breaking new ground, it's just hard to find because it gets ignored by the record labels that control our airwaves. It would have been nice to see a little bit more of that in the film, as well as some discussion of how technology is starting to allow us to discover music not sanctioned by the labels.
